“LIONS CLUB TO BE ORGANIZED IN MARIPOSA” ~ NOVEMBER 13, 1940

A group of 8 business men met at the Court House, Reg Harris, District Representative for Lions International and with Members of the LeGrand Lions Club.

The Club fundamentals were outlined by Harris. The group felt a need for such an organization and set Wednesday, 11/6/1940 at the Court House, as the time and place to organize. Dale Campbell was appointed Temporary Chairman.

All interested Men, regardless of occupation, living up or down the Highway, or surrounding communities are invited to attend the meeting whether they anticipate joining or not. 

“LIONS CLUB IS ORGANIZED IN MARIPOSA”

At a meeting held in the Court House by a representative group of Mariposa Business Men on Wednesday, Mariposa’s first International Organization of Lions Club was organized.

It was voted by the group to hold their regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

At the first preliminary meeting will elect Officers and appoint Committees and will be held on Tuesday evening November 12th.

Those who have signed up to secure the Charter are: Don Turner, Geo. Lozier, Fred Bradshaw, Wm. LeVee, R. E. Nolander, L. N. Egenhoff, Ed McCleland, E. J. Wormack, Dale K. Campbell, Eldridge Arndke, Johnnie Aho, Bryan Hencher, J. L. Spriggs, H. V. Armistead, Gordon Greenamyer.

“LIONS CLUB ORGANIZED HERE TUESDAY NIGHT”

The Mariposa Lions was organized at a meeting held at the Gold Coin Club. The organization was completed by R. C. Harris of the Lions International who came from Dana Point in Southern California.

Dale K. Campbell was elected President; Fred Bradshaw, 1st Vice President; E. T. Arndke, 2nd Vice President; Wm. LeVee, 3rd Vice President; David Muscio, Sec-Treasurer; George Lozier, Tail Twister; Edward McClellan, Lion Tamer; Chas. Greenamyer and Byron Hensler, 2 year Directors; James Spriggs and Ernest Womack, 1 year Directors.

Charter Night , December 10th at which time the District Governor, Enest Simon from Stockton will make the Charter presentation. This meeting will be Ladies Night and there will probably be 150 Lions and Guest from other Clubs.

The Mariposa Lions Club will be sponsored by the LeGrand, Chowchilla and Merced Lions Clubs.
